The Richmond Spiders will travel to Capital One Arena to take on the Georgetown Hoyas this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.

The Richmond Spiders lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 2-4 on the season after being defeated by the Hampton Pirates, 88-66, this past Sunday night. Richmond had no answers on the defensive end for the Pirates and couldn’t fight back after a 7-1 Hampton run gave the Pirates a 60-44 lead with 14:08 left in regulation. Richmond shot 45.3% from the field, however, allowed Hampton to shoot 51.8% from the field and 43.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Spiders was Grant Golden who had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the season, Richmond is averaging 70.3 ppg on 49.2% shooting from the field. The Spiders are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 30.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Richmond has been led by Grant Golden (20.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.0 bpg), Jacob Gilyard (16.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 5.6 apg, 2.6 spg), Nick Sherod (12.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.3 spg), and Nathan Cayo (9.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.2 bpg).

Defensively, Richmond is allowing their opponents to average 72.5 ppg on 48.9% shooting from the field. The Spiders have a rebound margin of -5.7 and a turnover margin of 2.0.

The Georgetown Hoyas won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating the Campbell Fighting Camels, 93-85, this past Saturday. Georgetown had their hands full with College Basketball’s top-scorer in Chris Clemons who had 45 points however, had little trouble securing the victory after taking a 76-56 lead with 8:15 left in regulation. Georgetown shot 49.3% from the field and outrebounded the Fighting Camels by a 41-32 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Hoyas was Trey Mourning who had a double-double with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the season, Georgetown is averaging 77.0 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Hoyas are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 31.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Georgetown has been led by Jessie Govan (18.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg), James Akinjo (13.5 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 5.3 apg), Josh LeBlanc (10.2 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.3 bpg), and Trey Mourning (9.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.3 apg).

Defensively, Georgetown is allowing their opponents to average 72.3 ppg on 41.6% shooting from the field. The Hoyas have a rebound margin of 3.2 and a turnover margin of -0.5.

The Spiders are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 games vs. Big East opponents however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss. The Hoyas are 15-37 ATS in their last 52 home games and just 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games overall.

Richmond looks like it has a bit more offensive punch led by the trio of Golden, Gilyard, and Sherod, however, the Spiders are still going to have a hard time picking up wins this season they still look awful when it comes to defense (335th in defensive FG%) & rebounding (T-315th in rebound margin). Georgetown is going to be a solid Big East that will probably be on the bubble for an NCAA bid this season and as I think their size and depth will be too much for the Spiders to answer, I think Jessie Govan goes off for a huge game here and that the Hoyas pull away in the 2nd half to cover this spread. Good Luck!

Pick:
Georgetown Hoyas -8.5
