Villanova Wildcats -5 -- Over/Under: 149.5
The Villanova Wildcats and the Georgetown Hoyas meet in Big East college basketball action from the Capital One Arena on Wednesday night.
The Villanova Wildcats will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games following a 71-65 loss to St. John’s in their last outing. Joe Cremo led the Wildcats with 14 points along with 4 threes while Phil Booth came right behind with 13 points. Eric Paschall and Saddiq Bey each had 11 points with Bey shooting 4 of 8 with 3 threes while Paschall had a team-high 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the double-double to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for ‘Nova in the losing effort. Jermaine Samuels had 10 rebounds of his own while Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree had 6 points with 3 steals. Booth leads Villanova with an average of 18.3 points and 3.8 assists per game while Cosby-Roundtree leads the Wildcats in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Villanova is averaging 75.8 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 36.2% from 3-point range and 72% from the foul line this season.
The Georgetown Hoyas will also be looking to find some consistent play after splitting their last 6 games following a 90-75 loss to Seton Hall last time out. Jessie Govan led the Hoyas with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 6 rebounds while Greg Malinowski added 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting with a pair of triples and 4 assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Georgetown in the losing effort. Jagan Mosely had 8 points and a team-high 5 assists while Josh LeBlanc added 6 points and 3 blocks and Jamorko Pickett had 9 points with 4 steals in the loss. Govan leads Georgetown with an average of 18.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while James Akinjo leads the Hoyas in assists with 5.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgetown is averaging 81.3 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 36.6% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.
Villanova is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 conference games and 40-15 ATS in their last 55 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Georgetown is 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 conference games and 9-20-1 ATS in their last 30 games overall while the over is 10-2 in their last 12 games following a loss. Villanova is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
Both of these two teams have been hard to trust with consistency as of late, but the fact is that the Wildcats have been easier to trust on the whole for a much longer period of time while Georgetown is still difficult to trust as it is. Villanova has also had the bulk of the success when these two teams meet as of late, so I’ll lay the points with Villanova in this one.
