The UL-Monroe Warhawks improved to 10-12 (4-7 Sun Belt) on the season after defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles, 66-64 in OT, this past Thursday. UL-Monroe was able to force OT after a Michael Ertel layup tied the game towards the end of regulation and pulled out the victory after a Sam McDaniel three-pointer with 11 seconds left in OT gave the Warhawks the lead for good. UL-Monroe held Georgia Southern to just 33.8% shooting from the field and 31.4% (11-35) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Warhawks was Travis Munnings who had a monster double-double with 26 points, 20 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 3 steals. On the season, UL-Monroe is averaging 69.3 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Warhawks are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 37.0% shooting from beyond the arc. The Warhawks are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Panthers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.
UL-Monroe has been led by their defense that ranks T-79th in scoring defense, however, their offense which relies heavily on the three-pointer, has struggled as they come into this matchup ranked just 281st in scoring offense and 250th in FG%. Georgia State win against Louisiana was outstanding and was extremely impressive to see the Panthers able to put up that many points as Georgia has generally been led by their defense this season which ranks 30th in scoring defense and 7th in defensive FG%. UL-Monroe has a great player in Travis Munnings, and as I think the Warhawks defense will be able to slow down a Georgia State offense coming off an emotional win, I’m taking UL-Monroe to cover with the points.
