Georgia State Panthers -13 -- Over/Under: 123
The Troy Trojans and the Georgia State Panthers meet in Sun Belt college basketball action from the GSU Sports Arena on Wednesday night.
The Troy Trojans will look to build some steam after snapping a 4-game losing streak with an 84-79 win over Arkansas State in their last outing. Javan Johnson led the Trojans with 20 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 4 threes and 6 rebounds while Alex Hicks came right behind with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting along with 9 rebounds. Darian Adams and Spencer Rodgers each had 12 points with Adams adding a team-high 5 assists while Rodgers chipped in 4 threes in 16 minutes to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for Troy in the win. Jordan Varnado missed the game due to injury and is questionable for this game, but still leads the Trojans in scoring with 21.4 points per game while Hicks leads Troy in rebounding with 8 rebounds per game and Adams leads the Trojans in assists with 3.4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Troy is averaging 76.7 points per game on 47.7% from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 71.7% from the foul line this season.
The Georgia State Panthers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 76-72 defeat at the hands of Louisiana in their last outing. Devin Mitchell led the Panthers with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes while D’Marcus Simonds came right behind with 19 points with 3 threes and 6 rebounds. Nelson Phillips added 14 points and 6 boards of his own in just 18 minutes on the floor while Kane Williams contributed 11 points and a team-high 4 assists to finish off the quartet of double-digit scorers for Georgia State in the losing effort. Simonds leads the Panthers in scoring with 19 points per game while Williams leads Georgia State in assists with 3.6 assists per game and Malik Benlevi leads the Panthers in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Georgia State is averaging 76.4 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 38.8% from behind the arc and 64.5% from the foul line this season.
Troy is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. Georgia State is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a game where they failed to cover the spread while the under is 9-4 in their last 13 home games. Troy is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams at Georgia State.
This is a lot of points to lay considering that 8 of the last 9 meetings between these two teams have either been a Troy victory, or a win by Georgia State by single digits. The loss of Varnado is huge, especially when Georgia State is one of the better teams in the conference. However, Georgia State is only outscoring teams by 5.1 points per game at home this season, and the Panthers only have one double-digit home win in conference this season. I’ll take a shot with Troy and the points here as I just think the Trojans find a way to sneak in the backdoor to cover.
