Georgia Bulldogs -3.5 -- Over/Under: 151
The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Georgia Bulldogs meet in SEC college basketball action from the Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 92-70 loss to top-ranked Tennessee in their last outing. Chris Silva led South Carolina with 28 points on 7 of 13 shooting with a 12 of 16 mark from the foul line along with 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks while Tre Campbell added 14 points with 3 threes as the only other Gamecock to score in double figures in the losing effort. Silva leads the Gamecocks with an average of 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while A.J. Lawson is South Carolina’s leading assist man with 2.6 helpers per game this season. As a team, South Carolina is averaging 74.6 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field, 31.4% from behind the arc and 71.3% from the foul line this season.
The Georgia Bulldogs are in need of a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games and 6 of their last 8 following a 70-60 loss to Arkansas in their last outing. Derek Ogbeide and Nicolas Claxton each had a team-high 14 points, with Claxton adding 7 rebounds while Ogbeide shot 6 of 9 from the floor with 8 rebounds and a horrendous 2 of 11 mark from the foul line. William Jackson II added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Georgia in the losing effort. Rayshaun Hammonds had 8 points and a team-high 13 rebounds while E’Torrion Wilridge added 10 boards as well in the defeat. Hammonds leads Georgia in scoring with 13 points per game while Claxton leads the Bulldogs with averages of 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgia is averaging 75 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 33.9% from behind the arc and 71.5% from the foul line this season.
South Carolina is 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 conference games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 19-7 in their last 26 games overall. Georgia is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 22-8 in their last 30 conference games. South Carolina is 7-22 ATS in the last 29 meetings between these two teams and 4-13 ATS in the last 17 meetings between these two teams at Georgia.
Georgia at home should probably be favored as the Bulldogs have done some of their best work on their home floor this season. However, the Bulldogs’ have been hard to trust offensively, scoring just 60 points or less in 4 of their 7 conference games this season. Georgia has been a thorn in the Gamecocks’ side over the years, but South Carolina has been a lot easier to trust as of late, with their lone conference losses coming to the top pair of teams in the SEC up to this point in Tennessee and LSU. I think the Gamecocks have a great chance to steal a road win here, so I’ll take South Carolina and the points in this one.
