The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Georgia Bulldogs meet in SEC conference college basketball action from Stegeman Coliseum on Wednesday evening.
The Vanderbilt Commodores come into this game looking to improve on their 9-4 record after suffering an 81-71 loss at the hands of Ole Miss in their last outing. Simisola Shittu led the ‘Dores with 21 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a 9 of 15 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 9 rebounds while Joe Toye added 12 points and 7 rebounds as the only other Vanderbilt player to score in double figures in the losing effort. As a team, Vanderbilt is averaging 82 points per game on 46.7% shooting from the field, 34.5% from behind the arc and 71.4% from the foul line this season.
The Georgia Bulldogs will look to rebound after ending up on the wrong side of 96-50 rout at the hands of Tennessee in their last outing. Derek Ogbeide led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a 5 of 7 mark from the foul line as the lone Georgia player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Nicolas Claxton added 6 points with a pair of blocks while Rayshaun Hammonds was held scoreless on 0 for 4 shooting in 16 minutes. Despite the off night, Hammonds still leads Georgia in scoring with 13.8 points per game while Claxton leads Georgia with an average of 9.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgia is averaging 76.9 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 32.5% from behind the 3-point line and 72.2% from the foul line this season.
Vanderbilt is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Georgia is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 18-6 in their last 24 conference games. The favorite is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams and the home team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams as well.
Georgia’s performance, or lack thereof, against Tennessee was definitely disappointing. However, I think that’s a blip more than anything for the Bulldogs as Georgia has actually played pretty well this season. Vanderbilt hasn’t played a true road game in nearly two months and Stegeman Coliseum isn’t the best place to go on the road as Georgia has gone 6-1 both SU and ATS this season, outscoring their opponents by 17.7 points per game this season. Since the line is more than reasonable, I’ll lay the bucket with Georgia in this spot.
