The Texas Southern Tigers and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet in non-conference college basketball action from McCarthey Athletic Center on Saturday night.
The Texas Southern Tigers will look to build on a solid opening performance to start the year after a 72-69 road upset of Baylor in their season opener on Tuesday. Jalyn Patterson led the Tigers with 23 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 6 assists while Trayvon Reed added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Devocio Butler added 13 points and Jeremy Combs chipped in 11 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for the Tigers in the victory. As a team, Texas Southern is averaging 72 points on 48.1% shooting from the field, 42.9% from 3-point range and 61.9% from the foul line after their opening game.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs will look to build on their solid opening performance in their last outing, taking down Idaho State by a final score of 120-79 in their last outing. Rui Hachimura led the ‘Zags with 33 points on 13 of 18 shooting while Zach Norvell Jr. added 23 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon Clarke added 15 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, while Corey Kispert added 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 4 threes. Filip Petrusev added 12 points to round out the double digit scoring for Gonzaga in the win, while Josh Perkins added 7 points and a team-high 8 assists. As a team, Gonzaga is averaging 120 points on 58.6% shooting from the field, 33.3% from behind the 3-point line and 81.1% from the foul line after their opening game.
Texas Southern is 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win. Gonzaga is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games against a team with a winning road record and 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 Saturday games while the over is 9-3 in their last 12 non-conference games.
The Tigers have been pretty strong ATS dating back to last season, and Gonzaga has had issues covering at home. However, Gonzaga is once again looking like one of the best in the country as usual, and I just don't see Texas Southern doing enough to keep this one close, so I'll lay the points with the Bulldogs here
