The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks will travel to the Stan Sheriff Center to take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this Sunday night in College Basketball action.

The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Omaha Mavericks, 76-66, this past Wednesday night. Northern Arizona led by a 32-31 margin at halftime and pulled away after an 8-0 Lumberjacks run gave Northern Arizona a 52-42 midway through the 2nd half. Northern Arizona shot 42.2% from the field while holding Omaha to just 21.9% (7-32) from beyond the arc in the victory. Northern Arizona outrebounded Omaha by a 42-33 margin and forced 13 turnovers in the win. Leading the way for the Lumberjacks was Davon Bolton who had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

On the season, Northern Arizona is averaging 82.3 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Lumberjacks are averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game on 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Arizona has been led by Carlos Hines (13.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg), Ted McCree (13.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.7 apg), Bernie Andre (12.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg), and Davon Bolton (9.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.3 apg). Defensively, Northern Arizona is allowing their opponents to average 79.3 ppg on 48.9% shooting from the field. The Lumberjacks have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of 0.7.

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to 2-1 on the year, after being defeated by the North Texas Mean Green, 68-51, this past Sunday. Hawaii couldn’t get anything rolling on the offensive end agianst the Mean Green defense and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 35-17 margin at halftime. Hawaii shot just 36.5% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the are while allowing North Texas to shoot 49.1% from the field. Hawaii was outrebounded by North Texas by a 34-32 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 17-11 margin. Leading the way for the Rainbow Warriors was Zigmars Raimo who had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, and a steal.

On the season, Hawaii is averaging 74.3 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Rainbow Warriors are averaging 9.0 three-pointers per game on 34.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hawaii has been led by Zigmars Raimo (15.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.5 bpg), Jack Purchase (12.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.0 bpg), Brocke Stepteau (8.5 ppg, 3.0 apg), and Drew Buggs (8.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.5 apg). Defensively, Hawaii is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Rainbow Warriors have a rebound margin of 3.0 and a turnover margin of 2.7.

The Lumberjacks are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win however, just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Warriors are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a ATS loss.

Northern Arizona picked up a surprising win on the road against Omaha however, this is a team that is going to struggle defensively this season and already ranked just 293rd in scoring defense & 324th in defensive FG%. Hawaii returned a lot of talent from last year’s team that went 17-13 and once again should be a very good defensive team after finishing last season ranked 90th in scoring defense. Playing in Hawaii is always a challenge however, I just don’t think this Lumberjacks team is going to have a lot of success on either end of the court against the Rainbow Warriors and that Hawaii wins this one by double-digits.
