The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos will travel to the Stan Sheriff Center to take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos dropped to 15-5 (4-2 Big West) on the season after being defeated by the UC Irvine Anteaters, 66-62 in OT, this past Thursday. UC Santa Barbara could hit a game-winning jumper at the end or regulation and couldn’t fight back after an 6-0 Anteaters run to start overtime gave UC Irvine a 62-56 lead with 3:23 remaining in OT. UC Santa Barbara shot just 33.8% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Gauchos was JaQuori McLaughlin who had 12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 3 steals.
On the season, UC Santa Barbara is averaging 75.0 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Gauchos are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UC Santa Barbara has been led by Ar’Mond Davis (14.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Deveral Ramsey (11.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.5 apg), JaQuori McLaughlin (11.4 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.2 apg), and Amadou Sow (10.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg).
Defensively, UC Santa Barbara is holding their opponents to an average of 64.8 ppg on 41.0% shooting from the field. The Gauchos have a rebound margin of 7.5 and a turnover margin of 0.2.
The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-7 (4-2 Big West) on the season after defeating the Long Beach State 49ers, 74-57, this past Thursday. Hawaii was solid on the defensive end against the 49ers and pulled away after the Rainbow Warriors took a 61-49 lead with just 6:48 left in regulation. Hawaii held Long Beach State to just 38.5% shooting from the field and 25.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Rainbow Warriors was Brocke Stepteau who had 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assits.
On the season, Hawaii is averaging 73.3 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Rainbow Warriors are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hawaii has been led by Eddie Strawberry (12.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg), Jack Purchase (11.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.1 apg), Zigmars Raimo (11.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg), and Drew Buggs (8.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Hawaii is holding their opponents to an average of 67.7 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Rainbow Warriors have a rebound margin of 2.3 and a turnover margin of 0.7.
The Gauchos are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss and 16-6 ATS in their last 22 road games. The Warriors are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. Big West opponents.
UC Santa Barbara has won 7 of their last 9 games and currently rank 138th in scoring offense, 32nd in scoring defense, and 61st in defensive FG%. Hawaii has also won 7 of their last 9 games and currently rank 181st in scoring offense, 94th in three-pointes made per game, and 89th in scoring defense.
UC Santa Barbara has been led by their defense this season, however, have lost 2 of their last 3 games and have given up an average of 76.0 ppg in their last two away games. Hawaii is 10-3 ATS at home this season and I think their Rainbow Warriors defense is going to give the Gauchos some trouble, I’m taking Hawaii to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
