The College of Charleston Cougars will travel to the Mack Sports Complex to take on the Hofstra Pride this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The College of Charleston Cougars dropped to 14-5 (3-3 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Northeastern Huskies, 69-60, this past Thursday. College of Charleston went into halftime tied at 23-all, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after Northeastern took a 45-29 lead by opening up the 2nd half on a 22-6 run. College of Charleston shot just 42.9% from the field & 28.6% from beyond the arc while allowing Northeastern to shoot 51.0% from the field. Leading the way for the Cougars was Grant Riller who had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists.
On the season, College of Charleston is averaging 72.7 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 31.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, College of Charleston has been led by Grant Riller (21.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.2 spg), Jarrell Brantley (18.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg), Brevin Galloway (8.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.5 spg), and Zep Jesper (5.8 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.2 apg).
Defensively, College of Charleston is holding their opponents to an average of 66.9 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of -0.1 and a turnover margin of 2.7.
The Hofstra Pride won their 13th straight game and improved to 16-3 (6-0 CAA) on the season after defeating the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, 87-72, this past Thursday. Hofstra went into halftime trailing by a 42-41 margin, however, dominated UNC-Wilmington on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and had no trouble securing the victory after a 12-0 Pride run gave Hofstra a 62-51 lead with 8:47 left in regulation. Hofstra shot 47.4% from the field and 47.6% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Pride was Eli Pemberton who had 24 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Hofstra is averaging 82.2 ppg on 48.1% shooting from the field. The Pride are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 37.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hofstra has been led by Justin Wright-Foreman (26.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.3 apg), Eli Pemberton (14.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.1 apg), Desure Buie (9.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 5.2 apg, 2.4 spg), and Tareq Coburn (8.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg).
Defensively, Hofstra is allowing their opponents to average 68.8 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Pride have a rebound margin of 3.8 and a turnover margin of 2.4.
The Cougars are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Pride are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.
College of Charleston has lost 3 of their last 4 games and come into this game ranked 208th in scoring offense, 73rd in FG%, and 72nd in scoring defense. Hofstra has been the surprise of the CAA so far this season and has been led by an offense that ranks 30th in scoring offense, 43rd in FG%, and 2nd in FT%.
College of Charleston is a solid defensively team that has a great duo in Grant Riller & Jarrell Brantley, however, and although losing at Northeastern is understandable, the Cougars have to be a bit concerned after losing games agianst James Madison & Drexel who both have losing records on the season. College of Charleston has a solid defense, however, Hofstra has one of the most explosive offensives in the CAA led by Justin Wright-Foreman and as the Pride are 7-3 ATS at home this season, I think Hofstra will be able to do enough to cover this mid-range spread. Good Luck!
