Hofstra Pride -18 -- Over/Under: 1446.5
The Elon Phoenix will travel to the Mack Sports Complex to take on the Hofstra Pride this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Elon Phoenix had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-16 (4-7 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Drexel Dragons, 67-63, this past Saturday night. Elon struggled defensively against the Dragons and couldn’t fight all the way back after Drexel took a 56-44 lead midway through the 2nd half. Elon allowed Drexel to shoot 44.4% from the field and 45.5% from beyond the arc in the loss, while also getting outrebounded by the Dragons by a 37-26 margin. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Sheldon Eberhardt who had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in 20 minutes from off the bench.
On the season, Elon is averaging 69.5 ppg on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Tyler Seibring (17.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg), Steve Santa Ana (15.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.1 apg), Sheldon Eberhardt (9.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.5 apg), and Nathan Priddy (7.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.6 apg).
Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 75.4 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -2.9 and a turnover margin of -3.0.
The Hofstra Pride had their 16-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 19-4 (9-1 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Northeastern Huskies, 75-61, this past Saturday. Hofstra’s high-scoring offense couldn’t get anything going against the Northeastern defense and couldn’t fight back after the Huskies too a 56-45 lead with just 7:53 left in regulation. Hofstra shot 39.3% from the field & 22.7% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Pride was Desure Buie who had 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.
On the season, Hofstra is averaging 81.7 ppg on 48.7% shooting from the field. The Pride are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 37.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hofstra has been led by Justin Wright-Foreman (25.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.3 apg), Eli Pemberton (15.5 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.0 apg), Desure Buie (10.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.0 apg, 2.5 spg), and Tareq Coburn (8.7 ppg, 4.3 rpg).
Defensively, Hofstra is allowing their opponents to average 68.8 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Pride have a rebound margin of 2.7 and a turnover margin of 2.8.
The Phoenix are 9-20 ATS in their last 29 games overall and just 10-23 ATS in their last 33 road games. The Pride are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
Elon has won 3 of their last 5 games, however, have struggled on both ends of the court this season as they rank just 269th in scoring offense, 273rd in scoring defense, and 247th in defensive FG%.
Hofstra couldn’t continue the nations longest winning streak in a tough game at Northeastern, however, the Pride have looked like the team to beat in the CAA this season as they currently rank 30th in scoring offense, 19th in FG%, and 114th in scoring defense.
Hofstra has been outstanding throughout the season and have posted a 12-0 record at home, however, Elon has been playing some of their best basketball of the season as of late and did give Hofstra all they could handle in a 74-71 defeat at home earlier this season. Elon’s has been decent on the road this season, posting a 4-5 record, and although I’m nervous about the Hofstra offense, this is just too many points for me to pass up. Take Elon and the points! Good Luck!
