The Temple Owls and the Houston Cougars meet in AAC college basketball action from the Fertitta Center on Thursday night.

The Temple Owls will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games following a 72-68 loss to Cincinnati in their last outing. J.P. Moorman II led the Owls with 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting with 3 threes while Shizz Alston Jr. added 18 points with 4 threes and a team-high 5 assists. Quinton Rose added 16 points with a pair of steals and Nate Pierre-Louis had 11 points with a team-high 6 rebounds to round out the scoring in double figures for Temple in the loss. Alston Jr. leads Temple with an average of 18.4 points and 5.2 assists per game while Aflakpui led the Owls in rebounding with 7.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Temple is averaging 75.4 points per game on 44.4% shooting from the field, 33.1% from behind the 3-point line and 72.9% from the foul line this season.

The Houston Cougars will be looking to build on their current 5-game winning streak after a 77-65 win over Tulsa in their last outing. Armoni Brooks led the Cougars with 22 points along with 6 threes while Fabian White Jr. added 14 points with 6 rebounds and Nate Hinton chipped in 13 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Cougars in the win. Chris Harris Jr. added 5 points with a team-high 10 rebounds while Galen Robinson Jr. also contributed 5 points to match his team-high 5 assists. Breaon Brady also had 9 rebounds as well in the victory for Houston. Brooks leads Houston with an average of 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game while Robinson Jr. leads the Cougars in assists with 5.4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Houston is averaging 75.7 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 34.8% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season. The Cougars are also rock solid defensively, allowing just the 6th-fewest points per game in D-I, giving up 60.2 points per game, while also sitting 2nd in the nation in terms of field goal percentage against and 3-point percentage against, allowing opponents to shoot just 36.4% and 26.1% respectively this season.

Temple is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 road games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Houston is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. The underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

Houston at home is always tough to bet against considering how well the Cougars play in front of their fans, and the Cougars will want revenge against the Temple team that gave them their only loss of the season. Temple has been playing better as of late in their own right, but the Owls tend to have issues with defensive-minded teams like Cincinnati and did suffer a not-so-great loss to Penn a couple of weeks ago. It’s not always pretty with Houston, but the Cougars are outscoring opponents by 18.2 points per game at home and have a margin of victory of 16.5 points per game in their 7 conference wins this season. I’ll lay the points with Houston in what I see being a double-digit home victory and more importantly, revenge.
