The Line: Idaho +3 -- Over/Under: 144
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds and Idaho Vandals meet Monday in college basketball action at the Cowan Spectrum.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds could use a win here after splitting their last eight games. The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are averaging 73.9 points on 42.9 percent shooting and allowing 79.8 points on 43.3 percent shooting. Brandon Better is averaging 13.8 points and 1.3 rebounds while Cameron Oluyitan is averaging 13.3 points and 2.2 assists. Dwayne Morgan is the third double-digit scorer and Andre Adams is grabbing 5.9 rebounds. The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are shooting 33.2 percent from beyond the arc and 70.9 percent from the free throw line. The Southern Utah Thunderbirds are allowing 36.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32.6 rebounds per game. The Southern Utah Thunderbirds have lost four of their last five road games.
The Idaho Vandals could also use a win to snap a six-game losing streak. The Idaho Vandals are averaging 66.5 points on 43 percent shooting and allowing 76.9 points on 45.3 percent shooting. Trevon Allen is averaging 14.4 points and 2.8 assists while Cameron Tyson is averaging 13.1 points and two rebounds. Jared Rodriguez is the third double-digit scorer and Scott Blakney is grabbing 4.9 rebounds. The Idaho Vandals are shooting 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 69.5 percent from the free throw line. The Idaho Vandals are allowing 33.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 29.6 rebounds per game. The Idaho Vandals have lost five of their last six home games.
The Thunderbirds are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 0-9 ATS in their last 9 Monday games. The Vandals are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games, 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big Sky and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings. The under is 4-1 in Vandals last 5 overall. The over is 8-2 in Thunderbirds last 10 overall.
I'm not trying to lay points with an inconsistent team such as the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, especially on the road. However, the Idaho Vandals enter this contest being outscored by an average of 15.6 points in their last five games while averaging just 58.4 points. Idaho is also 4-13 ATS overall this season and 2-7 ATS at home. Speaking of home court, it's where the Idaho Vandals are losing by an average of 8.8 points. There's just no reason to consider backing Idaho this season. So, if forced to pick this contest, I'd have to lay the bucket with the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
