The Drake Bulldogs and the Illinois State Redbirds meet in MVC college basketball action from the Redbird Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Drake Bulldogs will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after a 77-68 win over Bradley in their last outing. Brady Ellingson led the Bulldogs with 17 points while D.J Wilkins came right behind with 14 points. Nick McGlynn and Tremell Murphy each added 13 points and a team-high 9 rebounds with McGlynn shooting 6 of 10 from the floor with 3 blocks. Anthony Murphy added 12 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Drake in the winning effort. McGlynn leads Drake with an average of 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while Wilkins leads the Bulldogs in assists with 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Drake is averaging 76.5 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 36.4% from behind the arc and 75.1% from the foul line this season.

The Illinois State Redbirds will be looking to snap a 5-game losing streak after a 73-50 loss to Indiana State in their last outing. Phil Fayne led the Redbirds with 16 points on a perfect 7 of 7 shooting from the floor with a team-high 5 rebounds while Milik Yarbrough added 13 points and Matt Chastain chipped in 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Illinois State in the losing effort. William Tinsley added 5 rebounds of his own while Zach Copeland dished out a team-high 4 assists. Yarbrough leads Illinois State with an average of 16.4 points and 7 rebounds per game while Copeland leads the Redbirds in assists with 3.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Illinois State is averaging 69.1 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 34.2% from behind the arc and 70% from the foul line this season.

Drake is 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Illinois State is 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 home games. Drake is 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams and 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Illinois State.

I understand that Drake hasn’t had much success in this matchup, but I’m not laying points with a team on a 5-game losing streak in Illinois State against a Drake team that’s first place in the conference, on fire and have been a money making machine against the spread this season. Flat out, the wrong team is favored here, so I’ll take the points with Drake and sprinkle a little extra on the money line for good measure.

Drake +1.5
