The Florida Atlantic Owls and the Illinois Fighting Illini will meet up on the college basketball circuit Saturday.
Florida Atlantic Enters this one at 8-4 on the year. The Owls are just 2-2 in the last four games, taking out Mercer and Florida College but dropping to Arkansas State and Miami FL.
In the Hurricanes game, FAU’s Anthony Adger put up 19 points with four rebounds and two assists. The only other Owl in double-figures was Jaylen Sebree with 18 points, one rebound and one assist.
Over on the Illinois side, they stumble in here at 4-8 this season. The Illini are also 2-2 over their last four outings, beating UNLV and East Tennessee State but falling to Ohio State and Missouri.
In the Missouri game, the top Illini scorer was Trent Frazier with 28 points. Also hitting double-figures for the Illini were Giorgi Bezhanishvili (10 points; seven rebounds) and Aaron Jordan (10 points; five rebounds).
The Owls are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games versus a team with a losing record. FAU is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.
Meanwhile, the Illini are 7-0 ATS in their last seven versus CUSA and 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games. Illinois is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
FAU’s record is a bit of a fugazi these days, as they’ve played a few sub-par teams and wilt against top-shelf competition.
Illinois isn’t exactly top-shelf competition themselves, but I think the Illini have enough juice to get it done here. Give me Illinois.
