Wisconsin Badgers -6 -- Over/Under: 138.5
The Wisconsin Badgers and the Illinois Fighting Illini meet in Big Ten conference college basketball action from the State Farm Center on Wednesday night.
The Wisconsin Badgers will look to rebound and find some consistency after splitting their last 10 games following a huge 64-54 win over then-undefeated Michigan in their last outing. Ethan Happ led the Badgers with 26 points on 12 of 22 shooting along with team-highs of 10 rebounds and 7 assists as the lone Badger to score in double figures in the winning effort. Nate Reuvers added 9 points and a pair of blocks while Brad Davison and D’Mitrik Trice each had 3 assists with Davison adding 8 points while Trice chipped in 6 points. Happ leads the Badgers by averaging a double-double per game with 19.8 points and 10.3 rebounds along with a team-high 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Wisconsin is averaging 73.4 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, 39.1% from behind the arc and 66.5% from the foul line this season.
The Illinois Fighting Illini will look to rebound after a 95-71 loss to Iowa in their last outing. Ayo Dosunmu led the Fighting Illini with 15 points on 6 of 15 shooting along with a team-high 6 assists while Trent Frazier added 12 points with 3 threes. Giorgi Bezhanishvili and Aaron Jordan each had 11 points with Bezhanishvili adding a team-high 7 rebounds while Jordan shot 4 of 9 with 3 threes along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Illinois in the losing effort. Frazier leads the Illini in scoring with 14.6 points per game while Bezhanishvili leads Illinois in rebounding with 5.1 rebounds per game and Dosunmu leads Illinois in assists with 2.9 helpers per game this season. As a team, Illinois is averaging 74.2 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 35.1% from behind the 3-point line and 69.3% from the foul line this season.
Wisconsin is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 conference games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games following a win. Illinois is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Wisconsin is 19-7-1 ATS in the last 27 meetings between these two teams and 12-3-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings between these two teams in Illinois.
Consistency has been a big problem for the Badgers this year, and it’s been no different on the road where Wisconsin has solid wins over Iowa and Xavier, but also has a head-scratching loss to Western Kentucky and a narrow loss to Maryland in which the Badgers failed to cover. However, Wisconsin has won the last 13 meetings with the Illini, covering in 9 of the last 10 games and winning by an average margin of 13.6 points per game over that span, including an average margin of 8.8 points per game in winning the last 6 on the road. I just can’t trust Illinois unless I was getting a few more points at home, so while there are better bets on Wednesday’s board, I’d lay the points with Wisconsin in this one.
