The Line: Illinois Fighting Illini -5.5 -- Over/Under:
Out at State Farm Center on Thursday, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Illinois Fighting Illini will be meeting up in Big Ten college basketball action.
Wisconsin comes into this one with a 10-15 record overall. The Badgers have lost their last five straight games, most recently falling to Maryland on Sunday. In that one, Wisconsin forward Ethan Happ logged 18 points.
On the season, Happ leads the charge for Wisconsin with 17.4 PPG, 8.5 RPG and 3.8 APG. The only other Badgers player averaging in double-digits this season is Brad Davison with 11.2 PPG and 2.3 APG.
Over on the Illinois side, they’re currently 12-12 this year. After winning two straight games, the Illini lost to Ohio State their last time out. In that game, Illini guard Mark Alstork managed 19 points.
Tops in scoring for Illinois on the season is Leron Black with 14.3 PPG and 5.1 RPG. The only other Illinois player in double-digits is Trent Frazier (11.7 PPG), and Michael Finke isn’t too far off with 9.8 PPG and 4.9 RPG.
Wisconsin is 5-13-2 ATS in the last 20 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. The Badgers are also 1-6-2 ATS in the last nine games following an ATS win and the under is 7-2-1 in their last 10 road games.
Meanwhile, Illinois is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine Thursday games. The over is 3-0-1 in the Illini’s last four home games and the under is 13-3 in their last 16 Thursday games.
The Badgers have lost eight of their last nine games, and haven’t scored more than 67 points in any of those losses. That said, Wisconsin drilled Illinois when these teams last met by a score of 75-50. That’s a pretty big margin, and I don’t think it will happen again. I’ll take Illinois for the cover at home here.
