The Illinois State Redbirds and the Indiana State Sycamores meet in MVC college basketball action from the Hulman Center on Wednesday night.

The Illinois State Redbirds will be out to snap a 4-game losing streak after a 65-59 loss to Bradley last time out. Milik Yarbrough led the Redbirds with 20 points along with 8 rebounds while Phil Fayne had 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting with 11 rebounds for the double-double as the only other Illinois State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Matt Chastain added 6 points with 7 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists as well in the loss. Yarbrough leads Illinois State with an average of 16.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Illinois State is averaging 69.8 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field, 34.6% from behind the arc and 70.1% from the foul line this season.

The Indiana State Sycamores will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 5 games following a 79-57 loss to Southern Illinois last time out. Cooper Neese led the Sycamores with 14 points along with team-highs of 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Emondre Rickman added 12 points and Jordan Barnes chipped in 11 points with 3 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Indiana State in the losing effort. Christian Williams added 3 assists and 3 steals while De’Avion Washington matched his 5 points with 5 rebounds of his own in the loss. Tyreke Key was held to 8 points but still leads Indiana State in scoring with an average of 16.9 points per game while Barnes leads the Sycamores with an average of 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Indiana State is averaging 69.9 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, 36.9% from 3-point range and 72.5% from the foul line this season.

Illinois State is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 conference games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Indiana State is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 7-18 ATS in their last 25 conference games while the over is 19-8-2 in their last 29 games against a team with a winning record. Illinois State is 7-20 ATS in the last 27 meetings between these two teams and 1-10 ATS in the last 11 meetings between these two teams at Indiana State.

Illinois State has been solid on the road, so one could be tempted to side with the Redbirds given that this line is so low. However, that’s about all the Redbirds have going for them right now and while Indiana State has had consistency issues, the one thing that Illinois State has done consistently as of late is lose basketball games. The Redbirds have also had little success over the years against the Sycamores and even less success in this venue against Indiana State, so I’ll lay the bucket with Indiana State here.

Indiana State -1.5
