The Line: Indiana State Sycamores +3.5 -- Over/Under:
We have some Missouri Valley conference college basketball action on Saturday afternoon as the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers take on the Indiana State Sycamores.
The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers will look to keep things rolling after winning 9 of their last 10 games following a 72-57 victory over Drake in their last outing. Cameron Krutwig led the Ramblers with 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting with 9 rebounds, while Clayton Custer added 14 points on 6 of 15 shooting with a pair of threes. Ben Richardson added 11 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 3 triples and a team-high 6 assists while Aundre Jackson added 10 points in 13 minutes to finish off the scoring in double figures for Loyola in the win. Donte Ingram added a team-high 10 rebounds, while Marques Townes chipped in 9 points in the winning effort for the Ramblers. Townes leads Loyola-Chicago with an average of 11.3 points and 2.6 assists per game while Krutwig leads the Ramblers in rebounding with 6.7 boards per game this season. As a team, Loyola-Chicago is scoring 73.4 points per game while owning the 4th-best field goal percentage in the country at 51.2% and the 9th-best 3-point percentage at 41.4% this season. The Ramblers are also shooting 72.8% from the foul line this season. Loyola also own a very stout defense, giving up the 9th fewest points per game against, allowing just 63 points per game this season.
The Indiana State Sycamores could use a win after losing 4 of their last 5 games, including an 81-62 loss to Missouri State in their last outing. Brenton Scott led Indiana State with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting with 5 threes, while Jordan Barnes hit 4 triples for his 12 points and Brandon Murphy shot 8 of 9 from the foul line as part of his 10 point night to round out the trio of double digit scorers for the Sycamores in the loss. Devin Thomas and Emondre Rickman each added 6 rebounds in the losing effort for Indiana State. Barnes leads the Sycamores with an average of 17.2 points and 3.7 assists per game while Scott is Indiana State’s top rebounder with 5.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Indiana State is scoring 73.4 points per game on 43.6% shooting from the field, 37.3% from behind the arc and 70% from the foul line this season.
Loyola-Chicago is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 23-7 ATS in their last 30 games following a win while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 road games. Indiana State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 conference matchups. The over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I know it’s never easy to go on the road and cover as a favorite. However, Loyola-Chicago has earned the right to be a favorite here, as the Ramblers are easily the team to beat in the MVC right now. Indiana State has been decent at home, but the fact is that we are getting a low line with the hottest team in the conference that’s actually better on the road than the Sycamores are at home, so I’ll lay the points with Loyola-Chicago here.
