Illinois Fighting Illini (4-9) at Indiana Hoosiers (11-2)
|Date & Time||Thursday January 3, 2019, 7:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: Indiana Hoosiers -11.5 -- Over/Under: 145
The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Indiana Hoosiers will match up on the college basketball court Thursday.
Illinois stumbles into this game at 4-9 overall on the year. The Illini won consecutive games versus UNLV and East Tennessee State, but they’ve dropped their last two versus Missouri and Florida Atlantic.
In the Owls game, Illinois’ top scorer was Ayo Dosunmu with 21 points and eight rebounds. The only other Illini player in double-figures was Aaron Jordan with 20 points and five rebounds on the day, but Andres Feliz managed nine points with four assists and two rebounds.
Over on the Indiana side, they’re 11-2 this season. The Hoosiers have won their last six outings, taking out Northwestern, Penn State, Louisville, Butler, Central Arkansas and Jacksonville in that span.
In the Dolphins game, Aljami Durham was the lead Hoosiers scorer with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. Romeo Langford chipped in 15 for Indiana, and Juwan Morgan logged a triple-double with 10s in points, rebounds and assists.
Illinois is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 versus the Big Ten and 2-5 ATS in their last seven following an ATS loss. The Illini are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games.
Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are 4-1 ATS in their last five following a straight-up win and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Indiana is 15-5 ATS in their last 20 home games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games.
Illinois has put up a handful of solid performances so far this year, but they’re nowhere near consistent enough to be a force in the conference—let alone nationally.
So long as Indiana doesn’t look past this one toward Michigan and Nebraska (looming in the next four games), I think the Hoosiers hold the cards here.
