The Canisius Golden Griffins will travel to the Hynes Athletics Center to take on the Iona Gaels this Sunday night in College Basketball action.

The Canisius Golden Griffins improved to 13-14 (10-5 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Monmouth Hawks, 60-59, this past Friday night. Canisius struggled offensively agianst the Monmouth defense, however, was able to hang on late after taking a 57-51 lead with just 3:08 left in regulation. Canisius won despite shooting just 29.8% from the field and 29.4% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Golden Griffins was Takal Molson who had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Canisius is averaging 70.0 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Golden Griffins are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 32.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Canisius has been led by Takal Molson (16.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.3 spg), Isaiah Reese (11.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.6 spg), Malik Johnson (9.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.6 apg, 1.9 spg), and Scott Hitchon (8.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.4 apg).

Defensively, Canisius is allowing their opponents to average 74.2 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Golden Griffins have a rebound margin of -3.9 and a turnover margin of 1.4.

The Iona Gaels won their 5th straight game and improved to 12-15 (10-6 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Manhattan Jaspers, 66-52, this past Friday. Iona trailed by a 28-26 margin at halftime, however, dominated Manhattan in the 2nd half and pulled away after an 18-2 Gales run gave Iona a 53-37 lead with 6:28 left in regulation. Iona held Manhattan to just 35.7% shooting from the field and 28.1% shooting from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was E.J. Crawford who had 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.

On the season, Iona is averaging 76.3 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iona has been led by E.J. Crawford (17.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.8 apg), Rickey McGill (15.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.2 apg, 2.3 spg), Tajuan Agee (12.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.0 spg), and Asante Gist (11.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.1 apg).

Defensively, Iona is allowing their opponents to average 76.8 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of -2.4 and a turnover margin of 0.5.

The Golden Griffins are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 game overall. The Gaels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall, however, are just 9-23 ATS in their last 32 games following an ATS win.

Canisius has won 4 of their last 5 games and come into this game rank 253rd in scoring offense, 95th in assists per game, and T-245th in scoring defense.

Iona is starting to look like the team we expected to see more at the beginning of conference play and despite their struggles on defense as the Gaels rank just 297th in scoring defense, Iona has been solid offensively ranking 90th in scoring offense and 90th in three-pointers made per game.

Canisius might be on top of the MAAC at this moment, however, the Golden Griffins have not been overly impressive on either end of the floor this season and has barley scraped out victories as of late as their last 4 wins have been by a combined 10 points. Iona is 7-3 at home and as the Gaels defeated Canisius by an 88-70 margin on the road in mid-January, I think Iona continues their hot streak and covers this mid-range spread at home. Good Luck!

Pick:
Iona Gaels -6.5
