Sunday college basketball action brings us to the MAAC where the Fairfield Stags host the Iona Gaels.

The Iona Gaels have won three of four  after upending  the Rider Broncs 77-71 on Friday as a 2.5 point home underdog.

Iona  jumped  to a  12  point  advantage after  20  minutes  and held  off  a  late  Broncs  rally  behind a  48.4%  from the  floor. The Gaels were balanced on the attack with Asante Gist pumping in 20 points with three assists with EJ Crawford tossing in another 20 points.

Rickey McGill gave Iona 19 points, nine rebounds and seven helpers followed by Tajuan Agee with 16 points and eight boards.

The Fairfield Stags need a change in fortune after a 57-48 loss to Siena on Thursday left the team staring at four losses in a row.

Fairfield trailed by five points heading to the locker room and couldn’t mount a comeback with just 35.7% shooting and seven trips to the foul line.

Wassef Methnani was the Stags go to scorer with 15 points and five pulls with Neftali Alvarez tossing in seven points and posting seven boards.

Jonathan Kasibabu gave Fairfield six points and seven rebounds before fouling out in 23 minutes while Jesus Cruz chipped in with six points and five pulls.

Iona  are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 road games and over is 8-2 in Iona last 10 overall and over is 20-7-1 in IONA last 28 road games. Fairfield are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and  are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and  are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Metro Atlantic Athletic. Over is 7-1 in the last 8 meeting and over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Fairfield.

The way Fairfield has been scoring is a bit disappointing but a small stab at the Gaels…

Iona -1

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
