Iona Gaels -3 -- Over/Under: 157.5
The Quinnipiac Bobcats will travel to the Hynes Athletics Center to take on the Iona Gaels this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats improved to 11-10 (6-4 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Niagara Purple Eagles, 84-73, this past Sunday. Quinnipiac was solid on the offensive end against the Niagara defense and was able to pull away in the 2nd half after a 15-4 run gave the Bobcats a 74-63 lead with 3:47 left in regulation. Quinnipiac shot 49.0% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Cameron Young who had 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
On the season, Quinnipiac is averaging 71.9 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Bobcats are averaging 10.4 three-pointers per game on 36.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Quinnipiac has been led by Cameron Young (21.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.4 spg), Rich Kelly (12.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.8 apg), Jacob Rigoni (9.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.1 apg), and Tyrese Williams (8.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Quinnipiac is allowing their opponents to average 71.0 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Bobcats have a rebound margin of -0.5 and a turnover margin of -1.3.
The Iona Gaels lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 7-14 (5-5 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Siena Saints, 56-54, this past Saturday. Iona held a 46-39 lead midway through the 2nd half, however, couldn’t fight back after an ensuing 15-0 run by Siena gave the Saints a 54-46 lead with 3:24 left in regulation. Iona struggled offensively against the Saints as the Gaels shot just 36.0% from the field and 22.2% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Gaels was E.J. Crawford who had 19 points, 4 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Iona is averaging 78.5 ppg on 45.8% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iona has been led by E.J. Crawford (17.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.9 apg), Rickey McGill (15.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.3 apg, 2.2 spg), Asante Gist (12.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Tajuan Agee (12.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg).
Defensively, Iona is allowing their opponents to average 81.1 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of -3.9 and are averaging 7.0 steals per game.
The Bobcats are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win. The Gaels are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, however, just 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Quinnipiac has won 3 of their last 4 games and although their offense ranks just 215th in scoring offense, the Bobcats have been a dangerous team from beyond the arc as they currently rank 12th in three-pointers made per game & 78th in 3P-FG%. Quinnipiac’s defense has been solid this season as they currently rank T-168th in scoring defense.
Iona has lost 4 of their last 5 games and although their offense certainly can put up points as the Gaels rank 62nd in scoring offense, Iona’s defense has really struggled as they come into this match-up ranked just 341st in scoring defense & 283rd in defensive FG%.
Iona was expected to take a step back this season, however, I think even some of the biggest doubters coming into this season is surprised to see the Gaels sitting a 7-14 overall record, while sitting at just 5-5 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac comes into this game winning 3 of their last 5 road conference games and as I think the Bobcats will be able to do a lot of damage from beyond the arc against the below average Iona defense, I think Quinnipiac will do enough with the points to cover in this one. Good Luck!
