The Saint Peter’s Peacocks will travel to the Hynes Athletics Center to take on the Iona Gaels this Friday night in College Basketball action.

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 6-17 (3-8 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Canisius Golden Griffins, 64-60, this past Sunday. Saint Peter’s led by a 50-44 margin midway through the 2nd half, however, struggled offensively down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after a 13-0 Golden Griffins run gave Canisius a 62-52 lead with 4:39 left in regulation. Saint Peter’s shot just 29.4% from beyond the arc and lost the turnover battle by a 16-9 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Peacocks was Derrick Woods who had 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Saint Peter’s is averaging 62.3 ppg on 41.6% shooting from the field. The Peacocks are averaging 6.0 three-pointers per game on 32.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Saint Peter’s has been led by Davauhnte Turner (16.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.7 apg), Samuel Idowu (11.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.8 bpg), Quinn Taylor (7.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Dallas Watson (6.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.6 apg).

Defensively, Saint Peter’s is allowing their opponents to average 69.7 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Peacocks have a rebound margin of 0.7 and a turnover margin of -2.5.

The Iona Gaels won their 2nd straight game and improved to 9-15 (7-6 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Siena Saints, 57-52, this past Wednesday. Iona trailed by a 51-38 margin with just 8:00 minutes left in regulation, however, was incredible defensively down the stretch and was able to secure the come from behind victory after finishing the game on a 19-1 run. Iona held Siena to just 37.5% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Saints by a 38-31 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was Tajuan Agee who had a double-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Iona is averaging 78.0 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 33.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iona has been led by E.J. Crawford (17.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.9 apg), Rickey McGill (15.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.3 apg, 2.3 spg), Tajuan Agee (12.6 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg), and Asante Gist (12.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.1 apg).

Defensively, Iona is allowing their opponents to average 80.3 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of -4.0 and a turnover margin of 0.7.

The Peacocks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following an ATS loss, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Gaels are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and just 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall.

Saint Peter’s have lost 8 of their last 10 games and have really struggled offensively this season as the Peacocks rank just 343rd in scoring offense, 303rd in FG%, and 322nd in three-pointers made per game.

Iona has lost 4 of their last 7 games and although their offense has been solid putting up points as the Gaels rank 66th in scoring offense, Iona has struggled defensively as they come into this game ranked just 340th in scoring defense & 276th in defensive FG%.

Iona has had an up and down season in conference play, however, I don’t see the Gaels having too hard of a time picking up a victory agianst a Saint Peter’s team that hasn’t scored more than 60 points in each of their last 5 games. Saint Peter’s defense isn’t as strong as we’ve seen in past years and as the Peacocks are just 1-12 on the road this season, I’m taking Iona to cover this large home spread.

Iona Gaels -8
