Iona Gaels -5 -- Over/Under: 149.5
The Siena Saints will travel to the Hynes Athletics Center to take on the Iona Gaels this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Siena Saints had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-12 (4-4 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Monmouth Hawks, 66-55, this past Thursday night. Siena struggled defensively against the Hawks and although they trailed by just a 58-55 margin with just over two minutes left in regulation, the Saints couldn’t get any closer and allowed the Hawks to close out the game on an 8-0 run. Siena shot just 36.4% from the field while allowing Monmouth to shoot 47.6% from the field and 63.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Saints was Jalen Pickett who had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks.
On the season, Siena is averaging 64.0 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Saints are averaging 9.2 three-pointers per game on 34.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Siena has been led by Evan Fisher (15.6 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.8 apg), Jalen Pickett (15.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 6.7 apg, 2.1 spg), Kevin Degnan (8.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.0 spg), and Manny Camper (6.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.0 apg).
Siena is holding their opponents to an average of 66.7 ppg on 48.1% shooting from the field. The Saints have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of 0.5.
The Iona Gaels lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 7-13 (5-4 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Marist Red Foxes, 78-74, this past Thursday. Iona fought back from a 47-34 halftime deficit to make it a game late, however, didn’t get the chance to send it to OT after a pair of Darius Hines FT’s by the Red Foxes made it a two-possession game with just :02 seconds left in regulation. Iona allowed Marist to shoot 43.1% from the field and 45.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Gaels was E.J. Crawford who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block.
On the season, Iona is averaging 80.1 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iona has been led by E.J. Crawford (17.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.9 apg), Rickey McGill (15.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.3 apg, 2.3 spg), Asante Gist (12.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Isaiah Still (7.9 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Iona is allowing their opponents to average 82.6 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of -4.2 and a turnover margin of -0.2.
The Saints are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up loss, however, just 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. The Gaels are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games, however, just 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
Siena has won 4 of their last 6 games and come into this game ranked T-337th in scoring offense, 63rd in scoring defense, and 341st in defensive FG%. Iona has lost 4 of their last 7 games and although heir offense has been able to put up a solid amount of points this season as they currently rank 41st in scoring offense and 88th in FG% however, the Gaels have really struggled defensively as they rank 346th in scoring defense and 292nd in defensive FG%.
Iona has been one of the best teams in the MAAC over the last few seasons, however, the Gaels just don’t seem to be able to overcome their defensive liabilities as they have been able to do in the pass. Siena has played well as of late and as I think their slow-paced style of play will limit the damage the Iona offense will be able to do, I think the Saints will be able to do enough in this one to at worst, cover with the points. Good Luck!
