|Date & Time||Sunday January 20, 2019, 1:00 PM (EST)|
Iowa City, Iowa
Iowa Hawkeyes -9 O/U: 156.5
The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Iowa Hawkeyes will match up in college basketball action on Sunday.
Illinois enters this game with a 5-12 record so far. Following a five-game losing streak versus Missouri, Florida Atlantic, Indiana, Northwestern and Michigan, the Illini blew out Minnesota on Wednesday.
In the surprise win over the Gophers, Illinois’ lead scorer was Ayo Dosunmu, with 23 points, four rebounds and two assists. Giorgi Bezhanishvili put up a big line for the Illini as well with 20 points and eight rebounds in that one.
Over on the Iowa side, they’re 15-3 this season. Since falling to Purdue, Iowa has taken care of Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State in succession over their last four outings.
In the win over the Lions, Iowa’s lead scorer was Luka Garza with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Jordan Bohannon would add 19 points, six assists and three boards for the Hawkeyes, and Ryan Kriener posted 15 with five assists.
The Illini are 1-6 ATS in their last seven following an ATS win and 9-4-3 ATS in the last 16 after a straight-up win of more than 20 points. The under is 5-1-1 in Illinois’ last seven Sunday games and 60-25 in their last 85 road games.
Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 4-0 ATS in their last four versus the Big Ten. Iowa is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win and the over is 20-7 in their last 27 Sunday games.
I’ve written off the Illini for dead many a time this year, but to their credit the team is still “fighting.” Illinois lost by just two to FAU, eight to Indiana, two to Northwestern and 10 to Michigan, then destroyed a good Minnesota team 95-68.
As for Iowa, they’ve been pretty stout since that Purdue embarrassment, but they’re not necessarily blowing teams out of the water. Since this one’s away from home it may be a little tougher to achieve, but I think the plucky Illini can get in there on a cover.
