Iowa Hawkeyes -1.5 -- Over/Under: 151.5
The Maryland Terrapins and the Iowa Hawkeyes meet in Big Ten college basketball action from the Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Tuesday night.
The Maryland Terrapins will look to rebound after a 65-52 loss to Michigan in their last outing. Aaron Wiggins led the Terps with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 3 threes and 6 rebounds while Bruno Fernando added 12 points with a team-high 8 rebounds and Anthony Cowan Jr. chipped in 10 points with a team-high 3 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Maryland in the losing effort. Cowan Jr. leads Maryland with an average of 15.8 points and 4.5 assists per game while Fernando leads the Terrapins in rebounding by averaging 14.5 points along with a team-high 10.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Maryland is averaging 72.8 points per game on 46.2% shooting, 36.2% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after a 71-69 win over Rutgers last time out. Jordan Bohannon led the Hawkeyes with 18 points on 5 of 11 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 5 assists while Isaiah Moss came right behind with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 3 steals. Tyler Cook chipped in 12 points with a team-high 7 rebounds and 4 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Iowa in the win while Luka Garza added 7 points and 7 rebounds of his own in the victory. Cook leads Iowa with an average of 16.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while Bohannon leads the Hawkeyes in assists with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Iowa is averaging 81.2 points per game on 47.4% shooting from the field, 38% from behind the 3-point line and 75.1% from the foul line this season.
Maryland is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The over is 21-10-1 in Iowa’s last 32 conference games and 11-5 in Iowa’s last 16 Tuesday games. The favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This has the makings of one of the better games on Tuesday’s card, but with that said, I have to give my edge to Iowa here. Maryland plays hard after a loss and have been solid on the road, but the Hawkeyes are the hotter team right now and aren’t a team that beats themselves. If you take the points here, you’re basically saying that Maryland gets the win on the road and with Iowa being 16-2 SU at home this season, I just don’t see it happening for the Terps here, so I’ll lay the points with Iowa in this spot.
