The Line: IPFW Mastodons -5 -- Over/Under:
The Samford Bulldogs will face off against the Fort Wayne Mastodons in college basketball action Friday from Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Samford enters this one at 5-1 on the season. The Bulldogs had a good run starting things out, with victories over North Alabama, JSU, Kennesaw State, Miles and Cleveland State.
Tuesday versus Ohio State, Samford fell 68-50. In that one, the Bulldogs’ lead scorer was Myron Gordon with 18 points. Josh Sharkey and Brandon Austin both added 11 points apiece and nine rebounds between them.
Fort Wayne enters this one at 3-3 on the year. The Mastodons kicked things off by losing to UCLA and beating Earlham, then fell to Ohio State, beat Manchester and fell to Dayton.
In Tuesday’s matchup versus SC State, Fort Wayne won 72-68. In that game, the Mastodons’ lead scorers were Matt Holba and John Konchar, who logged 18 points apiece and 14 rebounds between the two.
The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 5-0 ATS in their last five overall. Samford is 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Mastodons are 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall. Fort Wayne is 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and the over is 6-1 in their last seven Friday games.
Samford looked pretty darn good in their five-game run to open the season, and even had the lead on Ohio State 32-29 heading into halftime (but put up just 18 points the rest of the way).
As for Fort Wayne, they’ve put up some solid offensive performances here and there but have also stalled at times. I’m going to stick with the Bulldogs here on the cover.
