The Hofstra Pride and the James Madison Dukes meet in a CAA college basketball showdown from JMU Convocation Center on Thursday night.
The Hofstra Pride come into this game looking to build on their impressive 14-game winning streak after an 86-72 win over Charleston last time out. Eli Pemberton led the Pride with 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting with a pair of threes and 5 rebounds while Justin Wright-Foreman added 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 3 triples, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jacquil Taylor chipped in 16 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 3 blocks and Jalen Ray added 14 points on an efficient 5 of 6 shooting with 4 threes and 3 steals to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Hofstra in the winning effort. Wright-Foreman leads the Pride and is 3rd in the country in scoring with 26.2 points per game while Taylor leads the Pride in rebounding with 7.8 rebounds per game and Desure Buie is Hofstra’s leading assist man with 5.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Hofstra is averaging 82.4 points per game on 48.7% shooting from the field and 38.3% from behind the 3-point line along with the 2nd-best free throw percentage in the nation, shooting 80% from the foul line this year.
The James Madison Dukes will look to rebound from back-to-back road losses following a 73-68 loss to Drexel in their last outing. Stuckey Mosley led the Dukes with 25 points on 10 of 20 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 7 rebounds with 4 assists and 4 steals while Matt Lewis added 21 points along with a team-high 5 assists as the only other James Madison player to score in double figures in the losing effort for the Dukes. Mosley leads the Dukes in scoring with 16.5 points per game while Lewis leads James Madison in assists with 3 helpers per game and Dwight Wilson leads the Dukes in rebounding with 7.4 boards per game this season. As a team, James Madison is averaging 70.1 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the arc and 69.9% from the foul line this season.
Hofstra is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 road games and 21-6-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record. James Madison is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games while the over is 11-4 in their last 15 games against a team with a winning record. Hofstra is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings between these two teams at James Madison and the road team is 20-8 ATS in the last 28 meetings between these two teams.
Hofstra has clearly established themselves as the team to beat in the CAA this season, and have been nothing short of spectacular ATS this season, going 15-4 ATS and 7-1 ATS on the road. James Madison has gone 6-2 SU at home this year, but the Dukes don’t have the horses to keep up with Hofstra here. The Pride’s last trip to the JMU Convocation center ended with a 16-point Hofstra win, and given Hofstra’s dominance over the years ATS in this venue, I think the Pride can continue rolling with a win and cover on the road here.
