The UNC Wilmington Seahawks will travel to the JMU Convocation Center to take on the James Madison Dukes this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks lost their 6th straight game and dropped to 4-10 (0-1 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the College of Charleston Cougars, 73-66, this past Saturday. UNC Wilmington fought back a 37-29 halftime deficit to cut the Cougars lead to just a 67-66 margin with 2:07 left in regulation, however, the Seahawks couldn’t pull off the victory after their offense was held scoreless that rest of the way. UNC Wilmington shot 48.2% from the field, however, lost the turnover battle by a 14-7 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had 27 points, 19 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and a block.
On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 76.2 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 36.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (14.6 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 1.0 spg), Jeantal Cylla (13.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg), Ty Gadsden (9.7 ppg, 2.0 apg), and Kai Toews (7.4 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 7.5 apg).
Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of -5.1.
The James Madison Dukes lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 7-8 (0-2 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Elon Phoenix, 68-65, this past Sunday. James Madison struggled offensively agianst the Phoenix and couldn’t fight all the way back after Elon took a 58-41 lead with 9:11 left in regulation. James Madison shot 41.1% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Dukes was Dwight Wilson who had a double-double with 22 points & 10 rebounds.
On the season, James Madison is averaging 69.3 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Dukes are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, James Madison has been led by Stuckey Mosley (16.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg), Matt Lewis (14.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Darius Banks (12.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.1 apg, 2.1 spg), and Dwight Wilson (9.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg).
Defensively, James Madison is allowing their opponents to average 70.7 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Dukes have a rebound margin of 3.6 and a turnover margin of -1.8.
The Seahawks are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS win and 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Dukes are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 Thursday games & 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games vs. CAA opponents.
UNC Wilmington has one of the best players in the CAA in Devontae Cacok and a solid duo with Jeantal Cylla, however, it’s going to be difficult for the Seahawks to pick up victories as they rank 333rd in scoring defense, 311th in defensive FG%, and 342nd in turnover margin. James Madison just finished up a tough 4-game road trip in which they couldn’t pick up a win, however, will be happy that they are back at home as they are 4-1 at the JMU Convocation Center this season including solid wins over Northern Illinois & Radford. UNC Wilmington has yet to win on the road this season and as I think the Dukes Dwight Wilson will be able to give Devontae Cacok some trouble in the frontcourt, I’m taking James Madison to cover this small spread at home.
