The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will travel to Allen Fieldhouse to take on the 2nd ranked Kansas Jayhawks this Friday night in College Basketball action.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns dropped to 1-1 on the season after being defeated by the 6th ranked Tennessee Volunteers, 87-65, this past Friday. Louisiana was overmatched in about all areas of the game against the Volunteers and couldn’t fight back after the Ragin’ Cajuns went into halftime trailing by a 48-31 margin. Louisiana shot just 39.7% from the field while allowing Tennessee to shoot 54.0% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc. The Ragin’ Cajuns were outrebounded by a 40-33 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 12-11 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Ragin’ Cajuns was JaKeenan Gant who had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block.

On the season, Louisiana is averaging 93.0 ppg on 54.1% shooting from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging 11.0 three-pointers per game on 44.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Louisiana has been led by JaKeenan Gant (18.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.0 spg, 1.0 bpg), Marcus Stroman (11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 9.0 apg, 2.0 spg), and Justin Miller (10.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg). Defensively, Louisiana is allowing their opponents to average 83.5 ppg on 46.2% shooting from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns have a rebound margin of 0.5 and a turnover margin of 2.5.

The 2nd ranked Kansas Jayhawks improved to 2-0 on the young season after defeating the Vermont Catamounts, 84-68, this past Monday. Vermont gave Kansas all they could handle in the 1st half, however, the Jayhawks were outstanding on the offensive end throughout the game and pulled away after a 15-5 Jayhawks run gave Kansas a 59-45 lead with 11:24 left in regulation. Kansas shot 52.4% from the field and 63.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. The Jayhawks won the rebound battle by a 38-28 margin however, did lose the turnover battle by a 13-12 margin. Leading the way for the Jayhawks was Lagerald Vick who had 32 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.

On the season, Kansas is averaging 88.0 ppg on 48.5% shooting from the field. The Jayhawks are averaging 11.0 three-pointers per game on 52.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Kansas has been led by Udoka Azubuike (20.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.5 bpg), Lagerald Vick (17.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg), Quentin Grimes (15.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 7.0 apg), and Dedric Lawson (10.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.5 spg). Defensively, Kansas is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Jayhawks have a rebound margin of 6.0 and a turnover margin of 3.0.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and 0-7 ATS in their last 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games vs. Big-12 opponents. The Jayhawks are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Friday games.

Louisiana returned a bunch of experience from a team that went 27-7 last season, however, I’m still interested in seeing how successful the Ragin’ Cajuns will be without Frank Bartley & Bryce Washington. Kansas has as much talent as anyone in the country, led by Azubuike, Vick, Grimes, and Dotson and as I just don’t see how the Ragin’ Cajuns defense is going to slow this Jayhawks offense at Allen Fieldhouse, I think Kansas does enough to cover this huge spread.

Pick:
Kansas Jayhawks -21
