The Line: Kansas Jayhawks -8.5 -- Over/Under: 158
The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Kansas Jayhawks will be meeting up on the college basketball court Wednesday at Barclays Center.
Marquette arrives in this matchup at 3-1 on the year. The Eagles beat UMBC in their opener 67-42, then followed that up with a 92-59 drubbing of B-CU before recording their first loss 96-73 versus Indiana.
On Saturday versus Presbyterian, Marquette got back on track 74-55. In that game, the Eagles’ lead scorer was Sam Hauser, who doubled up on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Joseph Chartouny also had a nice line on 16 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Over on the Kansas side, they’re humming along at 3-0 this season so far. The Jayhawks took a big opening win over Michigan State 92-87, then blew past Vermont 84-68 last Monday.
In the Friday game versus Louisiana, Kansas secured another win 89-76. Leading the way for the Jayhawks in that one was LaGerald Vick, who just missed on a double-double with 33 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
Marquette is 2-5 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine neutral-site games. The over is 7-0-1 in the Eagles’ last eight versus the Big 12 and 11-3 in their last 14 neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, Kansas is 34-16-2 ATS in their last 52 Wednesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. The Jayhawks are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 versus the Big East and 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games.
Marquette probably should have played better versus Indiana, where they fell behind 47-34 in the first half and couldn’t get any closer with a 49-39 second half deficit. The Eagles are performing well otherwise, though.
As for Kansas, they’re a top-tier powerhouse as usual and should roll in this game. Still, I think the Eagles probably have just enough firepower to sneak in a cover.
