The Tennessee Volunteers and the Kansas Jayhawks meet in college basketball action on Friday as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off from the Barclays Center.

The Tennessee Volunteers will look for a big win to remain unbeaten after improving to 4-0 on the year thanks to a 92-81 win over Louisville in their last outing. Grant Williams led the Vols with 24 points on 9 of 15 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Admiral Schofield added 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 4 threes, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Lamonte Turner added 13 points on 4 of 10 shooting with 3 triples while Jordan Bone and John Fulkerson each added 11 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Tennessee, with Bone adding a team-high 6 assists. Williams leads Tennessee with an average of 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Schofield leads the Volunteers with 4.8 assists per game. As a team, Tennessee is averaging 82.8 points per game on 51.7% shooting from the field, 37.7% from behind the arc and 65.6% from the foul line this season.

The Kansas Jayhawks will also look to remain unbeaten after improving to 4-0 on the year with a 77-68 win over Marquette in their last outing. Dedric Lawson led the Jayhawks with 26 points on 9 of 16 shooting with 12 rebounds while Lagerald Vick added 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 3 triples. Marcus Garrett added 11 points and a pair of blocks while Devon Dotson added 10 points with a team-high 4 assists and 3 steals to finish off the quartet of double-digit scorers for Kansas in the win. Vick leads the Jayhawks with 20.8 points per game while Lawson leads Kansas in rebounding with 9.8 rebounds per game and Quentin Grimes leads the Jayhawks in assists with 4.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Kansas is scoring 85.5 points per game on 48.6% from the field, 47.3% from behind the arc and 63.4% from the foul line this season.

Tennessee is 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games against the Big 12 and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games while the under is 12-4 in their last 16 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. Kansas is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 neutral site games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 non-conference games.

Kansas is one of the best in the country, there’s no denying that, but call me crazy if you want, I actually think we are getting points with the better team here. Tennessee is just as experienced as Kansas, if not more so, and have the talent and athleticism to keep up with the Jayhawks here. The Vols have also played slightly tougher competition up to this point as well in my opinion, with the likes of Georgia Tech and Louisville already taken down on the schedule this season. I think this is going to be a back and forth game from start to finish, and I think the Volunteers have a good shot at the outright upset, so I’ll take the free buckets with Tennessee in this one.

Pick:
Tennessee +4
