The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Kentucky Wildcats meet in SEC college basketball action from Rupp Arena on Tuesday night.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will look to build on back-to-back wins following a 71-55 win over Vanderbilt in their last outing. Quinndary Weatherspoon led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 8 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists while Aric Holman and Tyson Carter each had 10 points with a pair of threes. Holman added a team-high 9 rebounds along with 3 assists while Reggie Perry chipped in 6 points and 8 rebounds. Abdul Ado also added 4 points and a pair of blocks. Quinndary Weatherspoon leads Mississippi State in scoring with 16.6 points per game while Holman leads the Bulldogs in rebounding with 8.1 rebounds per game and Lamar Peters leads Mississippi State in assists with 5.8 helpers per game this season. As a team, Mississippi State is averaging 79 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 38.3% from behind the 3-point line and 74.7% from the foul line this season.

The Kentucky Wildcats will look to build on their 4-game winning streak after winning 7 of their last 8 games with an 82-80 road win over Auburn last time out. Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro tied for the team-high with 20 points, with Johnson shooting 7 of 11 from the floor with a pair of threes while Herro shot 6 of 12 with 3 threes and 4 assists. Reid Travis added 17 points on an efficient 6 of 7 shooting with a 5 of 5 mark from the foul line along with a share of the team-high with 7 rebounds. PJ Washington added 13 points with 7 rebounds of his own to round out the scoring in double figures for Kentucky in the winning effort, while Ashton Hagans added 6 points with 7 rebounds and a team-high 6 assists. Johnson leads the Wildcats in scoring with 15 points per game while Washington leads Kentucky in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game and Hagans leads the Wildcats in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Kentucky is averaging 80.2 points per game on 48.9% shooting from the field, 34.9% from 3-point range and 75.2% from the foul line this season.

Mississippi State is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Kentucky is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 conference games and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 home games. Mississippi State is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

The home team has had a lot of success in this matchup, covering in 6 of the last 8 meetings between the two sides, so I can understand why Kentucky is favored here, also because the Wildcats are on fire as well. However, while the Wildcats have owned the Bulldogs, winning 83 of 101 all-time meetings, it’s hard for me to invest stock in any head-to-head trends against the spread because a lot of Kentucky’s talent is changing from year-to-year with all the one-and-dones for Coach Calipari. Mississippi State is an experienced group that’s had a lot of success ATS on the road and won’t be intimidated by the surroundings at Rupp Arena. I don’t know if Mississippi State picks up a win outright here, but I see no reason that the Bulldogs can’t be competitive and keep this one close so I’ll take Mississippi State and the points here.

Mississippi State +7
