La Salle Explorers +5.5 -- Over/Under: 137
The Davidson Wildcats will travel to Tom Gola Arena to take on the La Salle Explorers this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Davidson Wildcats improved to 20-7 (11-3 A-10) on the season after defeating the Rhode Island Rams, 75-66, this past Friday. Davidson was outstanding on the offensive end against the Rams and had no trouble securing the victory after going into halftime with a 36-27 lead. Davidson shot 61.1% from the field and 69.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Jon Axel Gudmundsson who had a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Davidson is averaging 71.5 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 9.3 three-pointers per game on 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Davidson has been led by Jon Axel Gudmundsson (17.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.3 spg), Kellan Grady (16.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Luke Frampton (11.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg), Luka Brajkovic (10.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.1 bpg).
Defensively, Davidson is holding their opponents to an average of 65.4 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 0.1.
The La Salle Explorers lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 8-18 (6-8 A-10) on the season after being defeated by the Richmond Spiders, 84-75, this past Saturday. La Salle struggled defensively against the Spiders and although the Explorers tied the game at 75-all with just 2:04 left in regulation, La Salle couldn’t pull off the victory after allowing Richmond close out the game on a 9-0 run. La Salle allowed Richmond to shoot 66.7% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Explorers was Pookie Powell who had 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists.
On the season, La Salle is averaging 68.5 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Explorers are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, La Salle has been led by Pookie Powell (16.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.9 apg, 1.5 spg), Isiah Deas (11.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Saul Phiri (11.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.0 apg), and David Beatty (7.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.4 apg).
Defensively, La Salle is allowing their opponents to average 73.0 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Explorers have a rebound margin of -2.3 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, however, are just 4-16-1 ATS in their last 21 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Explorers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games, however, just 4-10 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Davidson has won 8 of their last 10 games and although their offense ranks just T-217th in scoring offense, the Wildcats have been outstanding defensively this season as they come into this match-up ranked 40th in scoring defense & 27th in defensive FG%.
La Salle has split their last 10 games and currently rank 281st in scoring offense, 225th in scoring defense, and 295th in defensive FG%.
Davidson is a solid A-10 team that should win this game, however, I think this is a pretty big number for the Wildcats to cover on the road against and La Salle team that is not as bad as they might look statistically on paper. Prior to their loss against Richmond, La Salle won their previous three home games and Davidson has shown at times that they can struggle on the road as the Wildcats have losses at Saint Joseph’s & UMass who have a combined 7-21 record in A-10 play. La Salle has a go-to option on the offensive end in Pookie Powell and as I think the Explorers can keep this one competitive, I’m taking La Salle at home with the points. Good Luck!
