The Drexel Dragons and the La Salle Explorers meet in college basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Drexel Dragons will look to build on their first win of the season, coming in the form of a 118-41 rout of subdivision Bryn Athyn in their last outing. Trevor John led the Dragons with 26 points, including 8 threes, while Zach Walton and Jarvis Doles each had 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting, with Walton adding a team-high 9 rebounds along with 6 assists. James Butler added 14 points in 12 minutes on a perfect 6 of 6 shooting with 7 rebounds, while Alihan Demir, Kevin Doi and Tadas Kararinas each had 11 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Dragons in the win. Camren Wynter added 5 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists in the victory as well. John leads the Dragons with 17 points per game while Butler leads Drexel with 7 rebounds per game and Wynter leads Drexel in assists with 5.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Drexel is averaging 82 points per game on 49.4% shooting from the field, 44% from behind the arc and 67.4% from the foul line this season.
The La Salle Explorers will be looking for their first win of the season after falling to 0-3 with a 82-69 loss to Florida in their last outing. Pookie Powell led the Explorers with 21 points along with 3 steals while David Beatty added 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting with 3 triples. Isiah Deas added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for La Salle in the losing effort. Jared Kimbrough contributed 5 points and 8 rebounds while Traci Carter added a team-high 3 assists as well in the loss. Powell leads the Explorers with 20.3 points per game while Kimbrough is La Salle’s top rebounder with 7.3 rebounds per game and Carter leads the Explorers in assists with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, La Salle is averaging 70.7 points per game on 39.8% shooting from the field, 34.2% from behind the arc and 75% from the foul line this season.
Drexel is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a losing home record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. La Salle is 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 non-conference games. The road team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The win over a subdivision team doesn’t move my opinion on Drexel at all, but does that mean I think they should be a double-digit underdog against La Salle when the road team has had all of the success ATS in this matchup over the years? No. La Salle hasn’t done anything to deserve this kind of love and I’d say it’s because the Explorers are at home but like I just said, even home court hasn’t mattered. I’ll take a shot with Drexel and the points here.
