Wednesday college basketball pits the Massachusetts Minutemen against the La Salle Explorers.

The Massachusetts Minutemen finally ended a seven game losing streak with a 77-70 victory against Rhode Island  as a three point home dog on Sunday.

UMass led by six points at the intermission and kept Rhode Island at bay over the final 20 minutes behind 52.9% from the floor. 

Carl Pierre gave the Minutemen 24 points  followed  by Luwane Pipkins with 12 points, three yanks  and nine rebounds.

UMass received ten points and five pulls from Jonathan Laurent with Rashaan Holloway tossing in nine points while Djery Baptiste and Keon Clergeot each netting eight points.

The La Salle Explorers are gunning for back to back victories after a 73-71 win at Fordham as a two point underdog snapped a four game slide.

La Salle entered the intermission with a nine point advantage behind 52.9% shooting that offset 15 giveaways and ten more Rams shots.

Isiah Deas was key for the Explorers upset with 20 points, three yanks and six assists with Pookie Powell adding 15 points and four helpers.

La Salle received 14 points from Saul Phiri followed by Traci Parker who contributed ten points, five pulls and four assists.

Under is 6-1 in UMass Minutemen last 7 vs. Atlantic 10 and under is 4-1 in UMass Minutemen last 5 road games.

Neither team has an inspiring record but the Explorers appear to be trending in the right direction…
