La Salle Explorers -1.5 -- O/U: 142.5
The Richmond Spiders and the La Salle Explorers meet in A-10 college basketball action from the Tom Gola Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Richmond Spiders will look to build on a 72-69 win over Fordham last time out. Grant Golden led the Spiders with 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting while Andre Gustavson added 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 3 threes and 4 assists. Jacob Gilyard added 10 points with team-highs of 8 rebounds and 8 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Richmond in the winning effort while Nathan Cayo added 9 points with 5 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals. Golden leads Richmond with an average of 17.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while Gilyard leads the Spiders in assists with 5 helpers per game this season. As a team, Richmond is averaging 70.5 points per game on 47.8% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the arc and 66.7% from the foul line this season.
The La Salle Explorers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 62-60 loss to St. Bonaventure in their last outing. Pookie Powell led La Salle with 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 4 threes and 4 assists while Isiah Deas chipped in 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 3 threes and 3 steals. Saul Phiri added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for La Salle in the losing effort. Powell leads La Salle in scoring with 15.8 points per game while Ed Croswell leads the Explorers in rebounding wth 6.8 rebounds per game and Traci Carter leads La Salle in assists with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, La Salle is averaging 68.3 points per game on 40.6% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 76% from the foul line this season.
Richmond is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 16-5 in their last 21 road games. La Salle is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 12-4 in their last 16 games overall. Richmond is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
I’m inclined to lean towards Richmond as the better team getting points on the road here, however, the Spiders have a tendency to play down to lower opposition, which is why their record ATS against teams with losing records is so poor. La Salle is probably going to finish near the bottom of the A-10 this season, but a win over Richmond here isn’t completely out of the question, so while I’d personally leave this one alone, if forced to pick, I’d lay the points with La Salle here.
