The Brown Bears and the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds meet in college basketball action on Friday night.
The Brown Bears come into this season looking to rebound from a frustrating 2017-18 season that saw the Bears finish with an 11-16 overall record, including 4-10 in Ivy League play, missing out on the conference tournament. The Bears started Ivy League play 4-4 but fell out of contention down the stretch by losing their last 6 games, with 9 of their 10 conference losses coming by 9 points or less. Brown returns pretty much their entire starting lineup from last season, including their leading scorers in Brandon Anderson and Desmond Cambridge who each averaged 17.3 points per game, with Cambridge adding 4.5 rebounds per game while Anderson had a team-high 3.9 assists per game. As a team, Brown averaged 77 points per game on 42.6% shooting from the field, 31.6% from behind the arc and 75.6% from the foul line last season.
The LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds come into this game looking to build on a solid 109-76 beatdown of subdivision New Rochelle in their season opener. Raiquan Clark led the Blackbired with 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting with 9 rebounds and 6 steals while Tyrn Flowers added 21 points with 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks for the double-double. Raul Frias added 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 5 threes and 9 rebounds in just 19 minutes, while Eral Penn added 10 points to finish off the scoring for the Blackbirds in the winning effort. As a team, LIU Brooklyn is averaging 109 points per game on 51.9% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the arc and 73.9% from the foul line this season.
Brown is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600. LIU-Brooklyn is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall.
The Blackbirds looked solid in their opener, but I can't read too much into a win over a subdivision opponent in all honesty. Brown has had their struggles ATS dating back to last season, but the Bears have brought back the majority of their team from last season and the Blackbirds haven't had a ton of success at home ATS dating back to last season, so I'll side with Brown to pick up a road win in this one.
