The Southern Utah Thunderbirds visit the Long Beach State 49ers in a Wednesday college basketball bout.
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds improved to 4-1 with a 111-64 rout of sub-division San Diego Christian. Southern Utah went wire to wire with a 24 point lead after 20 minutes behind a hefty 50.6%-33.3% shooting advantage with 12 more shot attempts.
Jacob Calloway paced the Thunderbirds scoring spree with 20 points and five pulls with Kenton Eskridge adding 16 points, four pulls and three assists. Southern Utah received 15 points from Brandon Better followed by 12 point and eleven point performances from Maizen Fausett and Cameron Oluyitan with Faussett hauling in 14 rebounds.
Things haven’t gone favorably for the Long Beach State 49ers who are staring at a 2-7 record after a 74-70 defeat at San Diego as a 10.5 point underdog on Saturday. Long Beach State was outshot 44.6%-40.7% which was the difference.
Temidayo Yussuf kept the 49ers in the game as he poured in 28 points with six boards on 10-13 marksmanship and 8-10 at the line. Long Beach State saw another 19 points from Edon Maxhuni on 7-14 from the field while Bryan Alberts chipped in with nine points and KJ Byers hauled in 14 rebounds.
