Friday college basketball action pits the Longwood Lancers against the Fairfield Stags.

The Fairfield Stags absorbed their third loss of the young season in a 79-73 defeat at the hands of Wagner. Fairfield forced 16 turnovers but the Seahawks won the shooting battle 48.4%-44.1% which added up to four more field goals.

Landon Taliaferro exploded for 27 points to keep the Stags in contention on 9-15 marksmanship including 6-11 from beyond the arc. Neftali Alvarez supplied Fairfield with 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals on 7-17 from the field.

The Stags received another 14 points and eight rebounds from Jonathan Kasibabu on 4-8 from the floor but the remainder of the team were a combined 6-19 shooting.

The Longwood Lancers are off to one of their best starts despite suffering a 42-39 defeat to Charlotte on Monday to fall to 4-1. This wasn’t an offensive masterpiece with Longwood holding a 35.6%-26.2% shooting edge but losing with the 49ers holding a 14-3 advantage at the stripe.

Isaiah Walton topped the Lancers attack with 12 points and ten rebound on 5-17 from the floor but he was responsible for eleven turnovers. Longwood received ten points and another eight rebounds from Lorenzo Phillips on 4-11 while JaShaun Smith and Damarion Geter netted six points each.

Under is 20-7-1 in Fairfield last 28 neutral site games and Fairfield are 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 Friday games and over is 15-7 in Fairfield last 22 non-conference games. Longwood are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. 

Longwood looked like a high school offense last time out and I think a bounce back is in order...
