Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns -1 -- Over/Under: 162
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet in Sun Belt college basketball action from the Cajun Dome on Saturday evening.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks will look to build on back-to-back wins after an 88-79 win over Georgia Southern last time out. Daishon Smith led the Warhawks with 38 points on 10 of 20 shooting with 5 threes and a 13 of 15 mark from the foul line along with 6 rebounds, a team-high 6 assists and a pair of steals. Travis Munnings came 2nd with 17 points along with 11 rebounds for the double-double and Michael Ertel came right behind with 15 points. JD Williams chipped in 10 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for ULM in the winning effort. Smith leads Louisiana-Monroe with an average of 21.8 points and 3.8 assists per game while Munnings leads the Warhawks on the glass with 7.6 rebounds this season. As a team, Louisiana-Monroe is averaging 78.3 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 39.6% from behind the arc, which is the 10th-best 3-point percentage in D-I, and the 3rd-best free throw percentage in the country, shooting 78.8% from the charity stripe this season.
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will look to build some steam after a 76-72 win over Georgia State in their last outing. Jakeenan Gant led the Cajuns with 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field with 3 threes and 3 blocks while Cedric Russell added 14 points with 4 threes and Trajan Wesley added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Louisiana in the win. Justin Miller chipped in 8 points and 13 rebounds while Marcus Stroman contributed 9 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists in the winning effort. Gant leads Louisiana with an average of 21.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while Stroman leads the Ragin’ Cajuns in assists with 6.3 helpers per game this season. As a team, Louisiana is averaging 83 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 35.1% from behind the arc and 75.3% from the foul line this season.
Louisiana-Monroe is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 conference games. Louisiana is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a win. Louisiana-Monroe is 7-2 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I understand the Ragin’ Cajuns being favored because they’re at home, but the fact that this line is so tight makes me feel like that’s the only reason that Louisiana is favored here. The Ragin’ Cajuns may have slightly better numbers offensively, but ULM has been a covering machine for the most part as of late and have had a ton of success against their in-state conference rival over the last few years. I’ll take a shot with Louisiana and the free point in this one.
