The Northern Iowa Panthers snapped their 2-game losing streak and improved to 9-12 (4-4 MVC) on the season after defeating the Evansville Purple Aces, 81-74, this past Saturday. Northern Iowa trailed by a 36-31 margin at halftime, however, was outstanding offensively in the 2nd half and pulled away after a 7-0 Panthers run gave Northern Iowa a 77-68 lead with just :32 seconds left in regulation. Northern Iowa shot 45.0% from the field & 47.4% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Panthers was Spencer Haldeman who had 24 points, 1 rebound, & 1 assist in 26 minutes from off the bench.

Offensively, Northern Iowa has been led by AJ Green (14.9 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg), Wyatt Lohaus (9.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.5 apg), Trae Berhow (8.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Isaiah Brown (7.4 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.8 apg).
Defensively, Northern Iowa is allowing their opponents to average 68.1 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Panthers have a rebound margin of 0.0 and a turnover margin of 0.6.
The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers bounced back after their ugly loss to Missouri State to defeat the Southern Illinois Salukis, 75-50, this past Sunday and improved to 13-8 (6-2 MVC) on the season. Loyola-Chicago went on a 21-0 run midway through the 1st half and had no trouble securing the victory after the Ramblers went into halftime with a 42-19 lead. Loyola-Chicago shot 59.6% from the field and forced Southern Illinois into committing 19 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Salukis was Cameron Krutwig who had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Loyola-Chicago is averaging 67.5 ppg on 50.0% shooting from the field. The Ramblers are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Loyola-Chicago has been led by Marques Townes (14.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3.6 apg), Cameron Krutwig (13.9 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.0 bpg), Clayton Custer (12.5 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.1 spg), and Lucas Williamson (8.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, Loyola-Chicago is holding their opponents to an average of 60.9 ppg on 43.6% shooting from the field. The Ramblers have a rebound margin of 1.0 and a turnover margin of 0.9.
The Panthers are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games vs. MVC opponents, however, 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 road games. The Ramblers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Northern Iowa has won 3 of their last 5 games and although their defense has been decent, ranking 100th in scoring defense, the Panthers have had trouble generating much offense this season as they come into this match-up ranked just 320th in scoring offense & 330th in FG%. Loyola-Chicago has won 4 of their last 5 games and although their offense ranks just 306th in scoring offense, they do rank 7th in FG% and generally don’t need to put up too many points as their scoring defense is currently ranked 7th in College Basketball.
Loyola-Chicago has had an up and down season this year, especially on the offense end, however, there is no denying that the Ramblers that they have a solid defense which should be trouble for a Northern Iowa offense that just doesn’t have many weapons. Northern Iowa is just 1-6 on the road this season and although this is a big spread, I think the Ramblers will do enough in this one to pick up the cover. Good Luck!
