The Santa Clara Broncos and the Loyola Marymount Lions meet in WCC college basketball action from the Albert Gersten Pavilion on Thursday.
The Santa Clara Broncos come into this game looking to build on back-to-back wins following a 68-65 win over San Francisco last time out. Josip Vrankic led the Broncos with 20 points on 6 of 10 shooting with an 8 of 9 mark from the foul line and a team-high 9 rebounds. Tahj Eaddy added 16 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 3 threes. Guglielmo Caruso and Trey Wertz each had 13 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Santa Clara in the win. Caruso added 6 rebounds while shooting 6 of 12 from the floor while Wertz shot 5 of 9 with a pair of steals. Eaddy leads Santa Clara in scoring with 14.4 points per game while Wertz leads the Broncos in assists with 4.6 assists per game and Josh Martin leads Santa Clara in rebounding with 8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Santa Clara is averaging 68.6 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the 3-point line and 70.7% from the foul line this season.
The Loyola Marymount Lions come into this game looking to build on a 63-56 win over Pacific in their last outing. James Batemon led the Lions with 19 points on 5 of 10 shooting with an 8 of 9 mark from the foul line and 3 assists while Dameane Douglas added 11 points as the only other Loyola Marymount player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Eli Scott added 9 points with team-highs of 6 rebounds and 7 assists as well in the win. Batemon leads the Lions with an average of 16.7 points and 3.7 assists per game while Mattias Markusson leads Loyola Marymount in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Loyola Marymount is averaging 67.2 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field, 32.3% from behind the 3-point line and 73.9% from the foul line this season.
Santa Clara is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 10-4 in their last 14 conference games. Loyola Marymount is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. The road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
In all honesty, this spread feels a little bit backwards to me. Yes, I agree with Loyola Marymount being favored at home, but the fact is that Santa Clara has been rolling ATS as of late and are fresh off of a win over one of the better teams in the WCC with their win over San Francisco. Loyola Marymount has had trouble following up recent wins and given how much success the road team has had in this matchup, I think Santa Clara and the points are worth a look here.
