Manhattan Jaspers +1.5 -- Over/Under
The Marist Red Foxes will travel to Draddy Gymnasium to take on the Manhattan Jaspers this Monday night in College Basketball action.
The Marist Red Foxes lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 6-11 (1-4 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Iona Gaels, 90-77, this past Friday. Marist trailed by just a 40-39 margin at halftime, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 76-65 margin with 4:30 left in regulation. Marist allowed Iona to shoot 48.2% from the field and 38.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Red Foxes was Ryan Funk who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, Marist is averaging 67.4 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Red Foxes are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 36.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Marist has been led by Brian Parker (14.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.8 apg), Ryan Funk (10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg), Isaiah Lamb (8.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg), and Darius Hines (7.2 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.6 apg).
Defensively, Marist is allowing their opponents to average 70.5 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Red Foxes have a rebound margin of -2.7 and a turnover margin of 0.2.
The Manhattan Jaspers dropped to 4-14 (2-4 MAAC) on the season after being defeated by the Rider Broncs, 60-47, this past Saturday. Manhattan had no answers for the Rider defense and couldn’t fight back after a 13-2 Rider run gave the Broncs a 20-9 lead with 6:59 left in the 1st half. Manhattan shot just 36.0% from the field and 22.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Jaspers was Christian Hinckson who had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Manhattan is averaging 57.0 ppg on 39.6% shooting from the field. The Jaspers are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 33.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Manhattan has been led by Pauly Paulicap (8.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.1 bpg), Warren Williams (8.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg), Thomas Capuano (7.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.2 spg), and Nehemiah Mack (6.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Manhattan is holding their opponents to an average of 65.6 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Jaspers have a rebound margin of -1.5 and a turnover margin of -0.6.
The Red Foxes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Monday games, however, just 10-21 ATS in their last 31 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Jaspers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Monday games.
Marist has lost 6 of their last 7 games and has struggled on the offensive end as they currently rank just 305th in scoring offense & 302nd in FT%. Manhattan has lost 3 of their last 5 games and although their slow-paced style has their defense ranked T-40th in scoring defense, the Jaspers have some of the worst offensive numbers in all of College Basketball as they rank just 350th in scoring offense, 336th in FG%, and 351st in FT%.
Marist was able to easily handle the Jaspers defense in their match-up earlier this season as they defeated Manhattan by a 78-63 margin at home, and as I just can’t trust a team that doesn’t have a single player averaging more than 9 ppg, I’m taking the Red Foxes to cover this small road spread. Good Luck!
