The Niagara Purple Eagles faceoff with the Manhattan Jaspers in Saturday MAAC college basketball.

The Niagara Purple Eagles fell to Albany 79-74 as a six point home favorite going in to their conference opener. Niagara trailed by eleven at the halfway point but couldn’t come all the way back with 36.7% shooting to lean on.

Marcus Hammond was the top option for the Purple Eagles with 16 points on 5-8 accuracy and 3-4 at the line followed by Raheem Solomon with 15 points on 5-13 shooting and 3-3 at the stripe.

Niagara received 14 points, three yanks and five helpers on 3-10 from the field ad 8-9 at the foul line followed by Marvin Prochet with 13 points and nine rebounds on 4-9 accuracy.

The Manhattan Jaspers never found their offense in a 63-59 loss to Quinnipiac as a four point home dog.

Manhattan held a slight 44.4%-43.4% shooting edge with eight more looks at the basket but were outscored 11-5 at the line.

Tykei Greene paced the Jaspers attack with 13 points and seven rebounds on 5-10 marksmanship with Thomas Capuano tossing in another 13 points on 5-8 from the field.

Manhattan received seven points from Nehemiah Mack along with five helpers followed by Ebube Ebube with five points and nine rebounds.

Niagara are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 Saturday games and under is 9-4-1 in Niagara last 14 overall. Manhattan  are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and under is 39-17-2 in Manhattan last 58 overall. Niagara are 17-7 ATS in the last 24 meetings and home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

Niagara is the better team but I’ll back the half court attack of Manhattan at home…

Pick:
Manhattan +3

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
