The Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Manhattan Jaspers meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Draddy Coliseum on Thursday night.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats come into this game looking to bounce back after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games after a 76-73 loss to Stony Brook in their last outing. Cameron Young led the Bobcats with 21 points on 8 of 18 shooting with 4 threes while Jacob Rigoni added 16 points with 4 threes of his own. Tyree Pickron and Kevin Marfo each had 10 points to round out the foursome of double-digit scorers for Quinnipiac in the loss, with Pickron shooting a perfect 4 of 4 from the floor while Marfo added 13 rebounds for the double-double. Young leads the Bobcats in scoring with 18.4 points per game while Marfo leads Quinnipiac in rebounding with 9.3 rebounds per game and Tyrese Williams leads the Bobcats in assists with 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Quinnipiac is scoring 68.4 points per game on 39.8% shooting from the field, 33.1% from behind the arc and 65.7% from the foul line this season.
The Manhattan Jaspers will look to snap a 7-game losing streak after a 72-56 loss to St. Francis in their last outing. Pauly Paulicap led the Jaspers with 17 points on 6 of 11 shooting with 4 blocks as the lone Jasper to score in double figures in the losing effort. Warren Williams added 7 points while Christian Hinckson chipped in 6 points and a team-high 5 rebounds in the losing effort. Williams leads the Jaspers in scoring with 8.4 points per game while Ebube Ebube leads the Jaspers on the glass with 5.2 rebounds per game and Nehemiah Mack leads Manhattan in assists with 2.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Manhattan is averaging 54.2 points per game on 37.3% shooting from the field, 30.2% from behind the arc and 55.2% from the foul line this season.
Quinnipiac is 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a losing record while the 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Manhattan is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 conference games. Quinnipiac is 1-3-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Manhattan.
Manhattan as an underdog here is tempting considering they’ve had some success at home against the Bobcats over the years. However, I think that just goes to speak to the different directions these two have gone in this season. Quinnipiac has had consistency issues as of late, but the one thing the Jaspers have done consistently over the last couple of weeks is lose basketball games. Add in Quinnipiac’s success against teams with losing records and success on the road dating back to last season, and I think the only bet here is to lay the bucket with the Bobcats here.
