The Fairfield Stags and the Marist Red Foxes meet in college basketball action from McCann Arena on Friday.

Fairfield enters this one at 9-14 so far. The Stags are just 1-3 in their last four games, beating Monmouth while falling to Rider, Siena and Iona otherwise during that stretch.

In the loss to the Gaels, Fairfield’s lead scorer was Taj Benning with 16 points, two rebounds and one assist. Also in double-digits there was Vincent Eze with 14 points, seven rebounds and one assist.

Over on the Marist side, they’re 6-15 this year. The Foxes are 2-2 in their last four, with losses to Siena and Canisius alongside wins over Niagara and Saint Peter’s in that time.

In the win over the Peacocks, Marist’s Jordan Jones led the team with 18 points and five rebounds. Braden Bell added 15 points with four rebounds there, and both Michael Cubbage and Tyler Sagl notched 12 points apiece.

The Foxes are 4-1 ATS in their last five Friday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. Marist is 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall and the over is 5-2 in their last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Stags are 0-4 ATS in their last four Friday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. The under is 28-9 in Fairfield’s last 37 overall and 22-8 in their last 30 road games.

Fairfield obviously isn’t a big offensive team this year, as they’ve been at 55 or below in each of their last four games, and haven’t cracked 70 since way back on November 17. The Stags can be competitive in defensive battles against comparable teams, but other than that they’re usually out of their element.

The last time these teams met was a 70-58 road win for Marist. I just don’t see the Stags keeping up here if the Foxes get going in any capacity, so I’m going Marist on the cover here.
