Marquette Golden Eagles -11 -- O/U: 152
The Georgetown Hoyas and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet in Big East college basketball action from the Fiserv Forum on Saturday afternoon.
The Georgetown Hoyas enter this game looking to finish the season on a high note after a 101-69 loss to DePaul in their last outing. Mac McClung and James Akinjo tied for the team-high with 13 points as the lone pair of double-digit scorers for Georgetown in the losing effort. Both shot 3 for 10 from the floor with Akinjo adding a pair of threes, 5 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists. Josh LeBlanc added 8 points with a team-high 8 rebounds and 4 blocks while Jessie Govan had 6 points with a pair of rejections. Despite the off night offensively, Govan still leads Georgetown with an average of 17.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while Akinjo leads the Hoyas in assists with 5.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgetown is averaging 80.5 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field, 35.6% from behind the 3-point line and 73.9% from the foul line this season.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will be out to turn things around before the conference tournament, in the midst of a 3-game losing skid after a 73-64 loss to Seton Hall last time out. Sam Hauser led the Golden Eagles with 25 points on 9 of 19 shooting with 5 threes and a team-high 9 rebounds as the lone double-digit scorer for Marquette in the losing effort. Markus Howard added 6 points with a team-high 5 assists while Ed Morrow had 7 points with 3 steals. Howard still leads Marquette with an average of 24.9 points and 4 assists per game while Hauser leads the Golden Eagles on the glass with 7.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marquette is averaging 77.2 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 39.4% from behind the arc and 76.7% from the foul line this season.
Georgetown is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss while the over is 12-5 in their last 17 Saturday games. Marquette is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Georgetown is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams at Marquette.
I have no doubts that Marquette is the better team here and should be favored as they rightfully are. However, I just don’t feel comfortable laying this many points with Marquette given how they’ve looked during this mini losing streak. Sure, Georgetown was brutal against DePaul and didn’t show up ready to play, but maybe that means that the Hoyas will be good to go against a team that could help with any sort of resume building to get off of the tournament bubble. The Hoyas have a lot of work to do but it starts with needing a win here. I think this game means more to Georgetown than it does Marquette, so I’ll take a stab at Georgetown and the points in this one.
