The St. John’s Red Storm will travel to Fiserv Forum to take on the 10th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.

The St. John’s Red Storm dropped to 16-6 (4-5 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the 2nd ranked Duke Blue Devils, 91-61, this past Saturday. St. John’s was overmatched on both ends of the court agianst the Blue Devils and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 61-39 margin with 16:20 left in regulation. St. John’s allowed Duke to shoot 55.6% from the field while the Red Storm shot just 33.8% from the field & 19.2% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Red Storm was LJ Figueroa who had 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

On the season, St. John’s is averaging 81.2 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Red Storm are averaging 9.4 three-pointers per game on 37.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, St. John’s has been led by Shamorie Ponds (20.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.6 apg, 2.9 spg), Mustapha Heron (15.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.0 spg), LJ Figueroa (14.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.8 spg), and Justin Simon (10.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.3 spg).

Defensively, St. John’s is allowing their opponents to an average of 73.9 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Red Storm have a rebound margin of -3.0 and a turnover margin of 4.7.

The 10th ranked Marquette Golden Eagles won their 8th straight game and improved to 19-3 (8-1 Big East) on the season after defeating the Butler Bulldogs, 76-58, this past Wednesday. Marquette was outstanding on the offensive end against the Butler defense and had no trouble securing the victory after an 8-0 Golden Eagles run gave Marquette a 61-45 lead with 7:07 left in regulation. Marquette shot 56.9% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was Markus Howard who had 32 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

On the season, Marquette is averaging 79.5 ppg on 46.2% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles are averaging 9.5 three-pointers per game on 39.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Marquette has been led by Markus Howard (25.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.1 spg), Sam Hauser (15.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.2 apg), Joey Hauser (10.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Sacar Anim (7.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.3 apg).

Defensively, Marquette is allowing their opponents to average 69.0 ppg on 40.2% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles have a rebound margin of 5.4 and a turnover margin of -1.7.

The Red Storm are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss, however, just 5-16 ATS in their last 21 Tuesday games. The Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.

St. John’s has lost 3 of their last 4 games and has been led by their offense that ranks 34th in scoring offense & 63rd in FG%. The Red Storm can give up some points as they rank just 242nd in scoring defense, however, have done a nice job forcing turnovers as they rank T-16th in steals per game and 6th in turnover margin.

Marquette has won 16 of their last 17 games and has one of the more explosive offenses in the Big East as the Golden Eagles rank 47th in scoring offense, 9th in 3P-FG%, and 6th in FT shooting. The Golden Eagles have also been great defensively as they currently rank 121st in scoring defense & 30th in defensive FG%.

Marquette only loss since late November came at the hands of St. John’s as they were dominated in an 89-69 defeat  on the road, however, I think this game is going to be a different story as the Golden Eagles are a perfect 14-0 at Fiserv Forum this season. Marquette has one of the best players in the country in Markus Howard and as I haven’t been that impressive how St. John’s has looked in the month of January, I think Marquette does enough in this one to cover this mid-range spread. Good Luck.
